Fuzzy Robots

Looking at the shifting hierarchies of simulation and fabrication through image & geometry, the studio focusses on an image driven WORKFLOW for mixed resolution modelling & fabrication process. Through the exploration of line to surface and surface to volume the image plays between implied form and perceived form.

To create this “Fuzzy” object we generate toolpaths through a swarming technique onto our enclosure and super imposing it with the concept of dynamic projection, generating a “misregistration” between the extrusion and the superimposed projection.

We want to try and achieve the effect of physical & digital smearing along with augmented behavior of the extrusion. Adding this dynamic projection, opens up the workflow of the project to interact more adequately and in-sync with the digital and physical relation i.e. the back & forth recircle in the workflow, to generate different iterations & all relating to the underlying image.

Starting with one of the less explored 'faceted prisms' of Mies's Friedricstrasse and superimopsing them on the Mansion House, is our mandrel which is trying to give the enclosure a base for a new-materialism.

Another interesting concept explored in the project is the analogue-digital hybridity where the robot calibrates the mandrel with respect to itself to relate to toolpaths & then the produced extrusion is captured through them to retrieve it into the digital.

This anomaly in the workflow is the base of the studio and our project.
